Beginning with the transition from King David to Solomon and the eventual division of the kingdom into the Northern and Southern kingdoms after Solomon's death, 1 & 2 Kings explain Israel's exile to Babylon as a result of the nation's and its leaders' disobedience. A central theme is the failure of these many kings to provide a lasting, righteous rule, which points to the need for a future Savior King, Jesus.
