The Book of Psalms, located in the Old Testament of the Bible, is a collection of 150 sacred Hebrew poems, hymns, and prayers that express the full spetrum of human emotion toward God. Derived from the Greek word psalmoi, meaning "songs of praise," the book serves as both a prayer book and a hymnal for Jewish and Christian liturgies.
The book is traditionally divided into five distinct sections, echoing the five books of the Torah:
While King David is traditionally credited as the primary author—with 73 psalms specifically attributed to him—several other writers contributed to the collection. These include the Sons of Korah, Asaph, Solomon, and even Moses (Psalm 90).
